VAT (International orders - mainly EU and the United Kingdom)

VAT stands for value-added tax. It's a tax based on the consumption of goods and services that is commonly found in the EU and some other regions of the world.

VAT is also known as JCT, GST, SST, or QST in some countries.

As of July 1, 2021 VAT must be collected on all orders coming to EU countries and the United Kingdom. I don't collect taxes on orders from outside of Canada, and I don't transmit them to each country (you can imagine how much additional work would that mean for me! My business is extremely small so I can't afford to hire a group of accountants to deal with all the taxes from around the world).

This means you will have to pay your VAT once your package arrives in your country. These are additional charges which are not included in the total price displayed at checkout. The amount of VAT depends on the country - it is usually around 20%. I know it is not convenient at all, I am also not happy about that, but I am not the one who imposes taxes.

If you prefer to pay your VAT upfront at the checkout consider purchasing my products through Etsy.

Thank you for your understanding!

MORE AND MORE TAXES ON INTERNATIONAL ORDERS.

If you order from outside of Canada it may happen that you will have to pay customs fees (which is something totally different than VAT) if the value of the package exceeds the amount specified by your country. These charges are typically due once the package arrives in the destination country.  Each country has its own fees and laws. Please make sure that these costs are acceptable to you before you place your order.

I send all items as packages (not letters) and I have to declare the value of each package. That also means the price of the product will be visible on the package.

PACKAGING.
All prints and originals are wrapped in tissue paper and mailed flat, in a rigid envelope. For my miniature birds, I sometimes use a small box - I think it looks very lovely :) I also add a piece of cardboard to additionally secure the artwork. I'm passionate about reusing materials and making my packages as environmentally friendly as they can be.

I also reuse a lot of packaging materials that I have from other online orders (bubble envelopes and wrapping, cardboard, and so on). In general, I try to waste as low materials as it's possible. Low waste living style is very much important to me.

Most of the new packing materials I use are from EcoEnclose (https://www.ecoenclose.com/)

I add distance cards to each order so you can know how far your package has travelled until it reached you :) These tiny cards are printed on seed paper (from botanicalpaperworks.com).
It is a biodegradable paper made with post-consumer and post-industrial paper waste which is embedded with wildflower seeds. That means you can plant it in a pot and wait until magic happens!
